Let's Cook
Houston
We built the model. We proved the demand. Now we're opening the kitchen to all of Houston. Two ways to learn: a monthly event for the whole city and a monthly Saturday just for kids. Confidence, culture, and real-world skills — built in a real kitchen.

We've Already Done
the Work
Travel Villa Kitchen has been running real youth culinary programming in Houston — not as a concept, but as a live, proven experience. We've put kids in professional kitchens with working chefs, run team-based cook-offs, and watched confidence, skill, and ambition grow in real time.
Built by VK Capital Ventures with our 501(c)(3) partner Harlem River Farms, the model proved what's possible in a real kitchen. Now we're opening it to all of Houston.
We Built the Pilot
We launched a monthly culinary challenge with professional chef mentors, real kitchens, and a structured curriculum. It worked.
We Saw Real Demand
Families, schools, and community organizations started asking how to get their kids involved. The interest went far beyond our original audience.
We Validated the Impact
Participants gained confidence, earned food safety credentials, and discovered real career pathways. The model proved itself in the kitchen.
We're Expanding Access
Let's Cook Houston opens the same proven experience to all Houston families — with paid seats and scholarship seats cooking side by side.
We're Building the Future
Sponsors, auction proceeds, and community partners help us scale across neighborhoods — one kitchen, one cohort, one city at a time.
The Model Works. Houston Is Ready for More.
We started with a simple idea. The demand was immediate — from families, from schools, from the community.
Now we're expanding into Let's Cook Houston — a culinary experience open to everyone across the city. Two programs serve the whole community: a monthly event and Youth Saturdays for kids. Paid seats keep the kitchen running. Scholarships, funded by our auction and community sponsors, keep the door open for everyone. This is how a neighborhood program becomes a citywide movement.
What Let's Cook Houston Includes
Every monthly session follows a structured, mentorship-driven day. This is not a cooking demo — it's a full culinary experience built for confidence, culture, and real-world skills.
Morning — Arrival & Foundation
Youth arrive, enjoy breakfast, and split into age-based tracks: ages 14–17 walk through ServSafe Food Handler certification content, then head out to the garden in time for harvest and new garden learnings with Harlem River Farms. Younger participants get extended hands-on growing time in TSU's campus garden and the Hydroponics Lab — sourcing from the earth, not just the store.
The Reveal — Iron Chef Rules
Teams are assigned, kitchen rules are laid down, and the secret ingredient is unveiled. The Iron Chef challenge officially begins.
Midday — Market & Mise en Place
Teams build their grocery lists, head out for a group grocery run, and come back to set up their stations. Every cut, every prep — done by the youth.
Cook — The Iron Chef Cook-Off
Mise en place complete. Burners on. Teams execute their menus while judges circulate and mentors coach from the sidelines.
Close — Plates, Awards & Celebration
Final plating, judging, and scores. Certificates are presented, awards handed out, swag bags distributed, and photos taken to cap the day.
We Teach Kids to Source from the Garden, Not Just the Store
A key part of the Let's Cook Houston experience is learning where food really comes from. Our partner Mr. Ron at Harlem River Farms brings real garden knowledge to our young participants — connecting them to local urban agriculture and teaching them how to source fresh ingredients from the earth they live on.

From a Houston Kitchen to a Citywide Movement
Let's Cook Houston was built by people who believe every Houstonian deserves a seat in the kitchen. What started as a small culinary program has grown into a citywide movement — the same kitchen, the same mentors, now open to everyone. These are the organizations behind it.
VK Capital Ventures Inc.
A Houston-based culinary business development company and parent organization of the Travel Villa Kitchen Chef Co-op. VK Capital Ventures creates economic pathways for chefs and culinary entrepreneurs through staffing, sourcing, education, and community programming.
Let's Cook Houston was born from the co-op's commitment to "chefs first" — ensuring that the culinary industry reflects and serves the communities it feeds, starting right here in Houston.
Harlem River Farms
Our official 501(c)(3) nonprofit partner for Let's Cook Houston, bringing urban agriculture and farm-to-table education into the program's curriculum for Houston families.
The partnership with VK Capital Ventures connects direct employer relationships to Harlem River Farms' community network, creating a clear pipeline from certification to employment.
